Amy L. Marquardt Appointed Vice President, General Counsel, Hospital Sisters Health System

HSHS Vice President, General CounselSPRINGFIELD, IL - Amy L. Marquardt has accepted an invitation to serve as Vice President, General Counsel for Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS). She will begin her service with HSHS on April 2.

“I am delighted to join the HSHS family. It is a privilege and an honor to be able to serve in an organization rooted in the Franciscan tradition that provides high quality, compassionate care to patients and their families,” Marquardt said. “In my new role, I will focus on providing legal counsel and advice which will allow for the further development of the System, advance the guiding principles, and continue the mission of the organization. I look forward to beginning my service with HSHS,” she added.

Marquardt most recently served as Vice President of Legal Affairs, General Counsel and Corporate Responsibility Officer of Columbia St. Mary’s, Inc. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 2006 to 2011. In this role, she provided overall direction for legal services for the health care system, participated as a member of the senior leadership team and provided leadership for Risk Management, Corporate Responsibility, Research, Environmental Safety and Patient Representatives.

Columbia St. Mary’s is sponsored by Ascension Health and Columbia Health System, and is comprised of three hospitals, 65 community clinics, The Columbia College of Nursing, a partnership with the Orthopedic Hospital of Wisconsin and four Urgent Care Centers. Amy began her service with Columbia St. Mary’s in 1994 as a Staff Attorney and assumed positions of increasing responsibility throughout her 17 years of service with the health system including Legal Counsel, Director of Legal Affairs, Vice President, Legal Affairs and most recently, Vice President of Legal Affairs, General Counsel and Corporate Responsibility Officer.

“We’re delighted that Amy is joining HSHS. She will bring extensive experience in legal matters pertaining to health care systems and operations to HSHS,” said Mary Starmann-Harrison, HSHS President and Chief Executive Officer. “In addition, her experience as a Registered Nurse will give her a unique perspective on physician relations, patient satisfaction and Quality, Risk and Safety initiatives in a rapidly changing health care environment,” she added.

Between 1986 and 1998, Marquardt served with St. Mary’s Hospital of Milwaukee, Wisconsin first as a Registered Nurse (1986 to 1992) and then as Staff Attorney (1994 to 1998). She is currently elected to the Board of Directors of the Health Law Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Marquardt holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh.
